Need Your Opinion

I just took a book blog survey over at River City Reading (if you're a book blogger, head over and take it) and among the questions was what other kinds of posts do you do besides book reviews? It got me thinking...I've noticed that many blogs I follow have a standard non book review post they put up on a regular basis. Some of them are weekly memes, monthly wrap up posts, quotes, etc.

So I've been thinking about taking up a regular non book review post. Give me your favorite memes or types of non book review posts in the comments below. It can be one you write yourself or one you read elsewhere. If your favorite is already posted by someone, mention it again! ( Include a link if needed so I can look into your suggestion...like the home blog a meme comes from.)

Or if you have an idea for a new type of post, I'd be interested in that too! Trying to shake up this blog a little bit. Thanks for the help ahead of time.

  1. Well, I don't write anything but reviews on my English blog, but my Spanish blog is quite different: I like to talk about the libraries I visit, the book fairs in my hometown, etc. I also like the section "IMM" because you can take a look at the other's new books (I post it more or less monthly). I also write a brief post at the end of each month showing the books I've finished on a photo.
And I don't post it, but I also like the "top ten Tuesday" I see in other blogs because the questions and lists are interesting.
There are also discussion posts in other blogs about a topic every week, for example at the weekend...
I don't know; everything is quite "classic", but I like it :))

    1. I enjoy those bookish posts about anything books. I will keep trying to do those!

  2. Thanks for spreading the word about the survey! The one weekly post I always do is "It's Monday, What Are You Reading?" (which is technically a meme, since I link up). I like it because it gives me a chance to wrap up the previous week's reviews, share what I'm currently reading and always have a post ready for Monday even if I didn't have a review set.

    1. So I could even do this as a monthly wrap up. Sadly, there are weeks where I'm still on the same book, but I usually get through at least 4-6 books in a month.

  3. I sometimes do Top Ten Tuesday, and I post a quote from a recent read every Friday. I also love doing discussion posts, but the topics for those can be hard to come up with.

    1. What are discussion posts exactly? Can you think of an example you've done?

    2. Sure! My discussion posts are basically just ramblings about whatever bookish topic comes to mind; I'll give my own take or experience and then ask readers for their opinions. I categorize them as 'musings' on my blog, and some of them have been about what we look for in audiobooks, how we approach reading "chunkster" books, DNF-ing, bookshelf organization, finding time to read, etc. Those are the posts that tend to get the most engagement because everyone can relate and toss in their two cents.

    3. Oh I do like those posts! So much fun to see what everyone thinks.

  4. In addition to book reviews, I do two update posts per week. I have been thinking of adding some additional types of posts too. Your post was the kick in the pants to actually do something! :)

    1. Haha, don't you just love and hate when that happens?!

  5. I do a #SundaySentence on twitter. I like it because it allows me to post beautiful sentences from books that I may not have reviewed yet. I also like when people do more personal posts. I say that even though I don't! It's nice to learn more about the blogger and how they choose books etc.

    1. I do like your Sunday Sentence - no context, just a flow of words. I'm thinking a personal post is on its way this weekend - my daughter is going to her first Homecoming dance!

  6. I did that this morning too and realized that I don`t do anything exciting. So while I`m zero help in this dilemma, I share your pain. I will be watching the comments and possibly purloining an idea or two.

    1. If you're not familiar with any of the ladies above, they have great blogs with examples of what we're looking for!

  7. I started my own meme called Small Victories Sunday where I share my weekly recap and link it up to Sunday Salon, It's Monday, What Are you Reading, Mommy Monday Blog Hop and Little Things Thursday. I am still trying to get the link up working. But in it i recap what I've accomplished the last week in reading, cooking, blogging and my personal small victories (like exercising, organizing, something with kids) and what I plan to do the next week or two. I love cooking and sharing good recipes. Here's an example of my last link. http://momssmallvictories.com/small-victories-sunday-4/

I also like to share recipe reviews, blogging or home organization tips, anything I think my fellow book or mom bloggers would find useful. Good luck broadening your blogging horizons!

    1. So creative! Hmmm...think of something I really like about books/bookish stuff and make my own "meme." I might do that.

  8. I do several memes, some more regularly than others. Once in a while I post general bookish things from my daily life like my local library, any bookish memories I have, any cool indie bookstores I visit, etc. Sometimes I'll post technical help too... if I run into a blog-related problem, I take notes and screenshots as I fix it and create a post about that, thinking that if I ran across the issue, someone else out there might Google the same problem and find help on my page.

    1. Technical help is always great. I don't have much experience with interfaces, but Blogger seems somewhat limited. My next exploration is putting up a review policy through a link.
